A couple of “interesting” IT-things happened last night:
Google pushed a security update to my Android phone, which then rebooted on its own. Since that Android update, Outlook for Android is stuck in “free user” mode and does not recognize me anymore as the Office 365 subscriber that I am – so I’m now seeing unwanted ads in Outlook; ads that I am actually paying for not to see.
Because of a comment that I posted last night under another Linkedin post that was discussing how to deal with Death in the corporate world, the first ad that I saw in Outlook this morning was from a funeral parlor in Berlin, offering me to help “say goodbye to lost family members in dignity”. (I’m really not making this up!)
So, Microsoft-owned Linkedin analyzed my post, handed it over to Bing and Bing then thought it would be a great idea to show me ads from businesses making their living with Death itself.
Seriously, Linkedin, Microsoft, Bing – and the funeral parlor – you’re way out of line! This is not just an intrusion of privacy that should be illegal in the so-called civilized world, it’s also tasteless and graceless beyond measure.
