Thunder And Ashes is out!
Published May 13th, 2008 in WritingI’ve almost missed the news! Z. A. Recht’s “Thunder And Ashes”, the second/middle part of The Morningstar Saga and sequel to “Plague Of The Dead” is out. I’ve just ordered my copy from Amazon.co.uk, hoping that they ship it faster than their American or German shops.
With his Morningstar Saga, author Z.A. Recht follows the modern tradition of publishing a longer novel in multiple installments and selling them as a trilogy instead of the one book that they really are. Well, if this business model helps the writer to make some money to pay the rent and fill the fridge with food while he is working on the rest of the story, that’s fair enough and perfectly fine with me.
Since I do not yet have “Thunder And Ashes”, and since the final part of the trilogy is still being written, I’ve only had the chance to read the first book - and I really loved it. If you’re as much into the genre as I am, you will love it, too. It’s a perfect Zombie novel with everything a genre fan wants to read. It’s well written, fast with no boring moment and the book is also a great homage to the movies of the great director George A. Romero (”Dawn Of The Dead”) and his rather notorious colleague Lucio Fulci ( “Zombie Flesh Eaters”).
In “Plague Of The Dead”, the recently deceased are returning to life in a morgue and attack the physician that was going to examine them, army soldiers are overrun by hordes of zombies, isolated soldiers in quarantine suddenly turn and become zombies themselves and there is also the plundering of weapon stores in the book, along with survivors that barricade themselves in a movie theater. Nothing really new, and in this case, that’s a good thing. I got what I came here for and it’s exactly the kind of Zombie book I would write myself. It was the first book in years that I was so addicted to that I’ve even read in it in the subway although I had to stand near the doors throughout the ride.
I hope that in a few days or weeks I will post another message here saying that once more Z.A. Recht had me reading his book while I was standing throughout a subway ride.
If you like the genre, visit www.themorningstarsaga.com and buy the books.
UPDATE: It’s almost like christmas! The “Amazon Man”, as we call our postman, has finally brought me the book today! You’ll pardon me while I take some discretion time to read it.
UPDATE 2: Just finished and love it! I hope Z. will soon finalize and publish the third book, “Survivors”. Go and get these novels, you won’t regret it!
Thanks so much for the mentions of “Thunder and Ashes” and “Plague of the Dead.” Glad to hear you enjoyed the books!
