I officially love Wordpress

Published by Winni under Software

It’s easy to find blog articles about stuff that their authors ‘officially hate’. I thought I’d make an exception to that unwritten rule today.

Seriously, I think Wordpress is an awesome tool and piece of software. It’s customizable until kingdom come and changing entire designs is a snap.

I’ve just brought a new web site for a client online (and this customer is not a blogger) and chose Wordpress as the foundation so that my client can easily update his own content without having to study web design or an arcane and overly complex product like Typo3 first. Wordpress is reasonably simple and end user friendly, and these are qualities that most other Content Management Systems lack.

Of course, Wordpress has its limitations and quirks. It most certainly won’t be sufficient for eCommerce pages and sophisticated web shops, but it is more than good enough for most ’standard’ web presences and it really excels at blogging.

I use it myself on my own web page because I am sold on it and so far never had a serious issue with it. I strongly recommend it.

Vista is like a Tamagotchi

Published by Winni under Software, Thoughts

While I was installing UMTS on my Windows partition, my girl friend was watching. She uses OS X Tiger on her own Macs and they still have Windows NT 4 where she works. When Vista was showing all those bubble boxes like “Found new hardware”, “Looking for drivers” and “Software installed, your device is now ready to be used” she said in disbelief: “Vista is like a Tamagotchi. It always wants your attention.”
