Self-aware spam filters

Published by Winni under Thoughts

Today’s Dilbert cartoon pretty much describes how my spam filters work (or don’t work, for that matter), because I am also still getting lots of these emails that the pointy haired boss is getting:

I don’t know about you, but I think that like airports, the Internet is becoming less and less of a fun place to be.

Dead Space (Xbox 360, UK Version)

Published by Winni under Games

Dead Space takes off exactly where the prequel movie Dead Space - Downfall ended. So when you’ve seen the movie, you already know what awaits you onboard the Ishimura. Since the graphics of the game are actually better and of higher quality than the ones used in the movie, the game draws you even faster into its nightmarish world than the movie could ever hope: I’ve just finished the first chapter and I’m still shitting my pants.

Dead Space is a nicely done and extremely gory survival horror game with a very dense atmosphere. To finish my x meets y comments for today, the game so far feels a lot like Doom 3 meets System Shock, which in this case is a good thing and the mixed concepts of those two classics work very well together.

I am not a big fan of the third person perspective, though. I don’t think that any game actually gains anything by using a third person perspective, and in my not so humble opinion first person perspective are much more immersive and tense than anything else. However, Dead Space still fares very well despite of this and I have heard rumors that some people for incomprehensible reasons actually like the third person mode. Must have something to do with Lara Croft’s physical appearance, I presume.

Anyway, that much is certain: You want to have Dead Space in your collection of games.

German buyers: I’m sure you do not want to buy this one in Germany; I bet the German version will be censored like crazy. Do yourself a favor and buy an imported copy.
