Resident Evil games, ranked

Since we have a new Resident Evil movie in theaters, and since the Resi Remake trilogy will soon come in native versions to the Nintendo Switch 2, here is my personal ranking of the Resident Evil mainline games:

1. Resident Evil 2 Remake

If you only want to play one game of the franchise just to know what the Resi fans are talking about – this is it!

2. Resident Evil 9 Requiem

Play Resident Evil 2 and 3 first!

3. Resident Evil 7 Biohazard

I finished it on Switch 2 just last week; my prejudices had kept me away from this game, and boy, was I wrong! It really surprised me how good this game was!

4. Resident Evil HD Remake

Horrible controls, but other than that it’s a really great game.

5. Resident Evil 8 Village

Fantastic atmosphere, but unfortunately the first part of the game that plays in Castle Dimitrescu is the best part of the game and the following chapters, while still very good, cannot keep up.

6. Resident Evil 0

Horrible controls, and here, also, the first part of the game is the best chapter with the greatest atmosphere and the rest of the game simply cannot keep up.

7. Resident Evil 3 Remake

This game is way too short to pay the full price for it. Only buy it when it goes on a deep, deep sale.

8. Resident Evil 4 Remake

The most overrated game in the franchise: That ain’t Resident Evil anymore, that’s just a decent action game in a weird setting.

9. Resident Evil Revelations

Only the parts on the lost ocean cruiser were good and had a great atmosphere.

10. Resident Evil Revelations 2

I couldn’t be bothered to finish the game.

11. Resident Evil 5

I forced myself to do a full playthrough and finished the game today, but – except for Sheva – didn’t like it at all.

12. Resident Evil 6

I couldn’t be bothered to play it for more than an hour.

Games of the series that I tried but really could not get myself to play because of their atrocious tank controls:

1. Resident Evil 2 (The original / PC)

2. Resident Evil (The original game that started it all / PC)

3. Resident Evil 4 (The original on Xbox & Switch)

4. Resident Evil 3 (The original / PC)

5. Resident Evil Veronica X (Xbox 360) – I’m really looking forward to the Remake, though!

Gen X – The most dangerous survival mind ever built

As a 1970 Gen X, I can say that the video below is mostly right about my generation.

Mostly.

At least about the kids like myself that grew up in dysfunctional blue collar, worker class families.

Iron Maiden wrote a song about what life in our youth felt like.

That song is called WRATHCHILD and the first verse goes like this:

I was born into a scene of angriness and greed

And dominance and persecution

My mother was a queen, my dad I’ve never seen

I was never meant to be

We had to raise ourselves because nobody was ever there for us.

For over half a century, we’ve been fighting uphill battles and got shit done while everything around us was constantly falling apart.

Wherever we were, we kept the boat from sinking.

But for what?

Pension and retirement have always been a lie.

It’s always been just an additional tax that we had to pay.

Now we’re tired of it all.

Done.

But here comes the part where the video is dead wrong:

No, we don’t need – or want – connection unless it’s with a dog or any other animal.

What we we really need is a way to check out of the rat race and escape the increasing insanity of our failed society.

We just want to live in peace and as far away from other people as possible.
